Laura Macdougall

I graduated from university with a degree in Classics and then a Masters in Latin but with absolutely no idea what I wanted to do in terms of work. So I ran away to Italy. I lived there for two years, working as an English teacher and freelance translator. I knew I wanted to continue working with language in some way, so when I returned to London I did various internships in publishing houses and with literary agents, before getting my first job at Hodder & Stoughton five years ago. While there I built my own list of authors, which included debut novelists Julie Sarkissian and Martine Bailey and bestselling crime writers such as Mons Kallentoft.

I now work as an agent at Tibor Jones & Associates, based in Brixton. I work closely with the MD on the management of Wilbur Smith’s co-authored projects while also building my own list of authors. I’m particularly keen to work with debut writers, and will consider anything that isn’t children’s, fantasy, or science-fiction.
