I co-founded Diamond Kahn & Woods Literary Agency in 2012, having previously worked at the Caroline Sheldon Agency and spent several years working in specialist bookshops and libraries. I work with everything from children’s and YA fiction through to literary fiction for adults and narrative non-fiction. I was selected by The Bookseller as one of their Rising Stars of 2013, and was a winner of the London Book Fair Trailblazer Awards 2016 and the Young Stationers’ Prize 2016.
My taste in books is eclectic, to say the least, so I’ve always found it difficult to pin down exactly what it is that I’m looking for in a manuscript; I often won’t know until I see it. But I can tell you I like strong, distinct voices, vivid characters and powerful stories that grab hold of me and won’t let me go. I like books that make me laugh, books that make me cry. Gothic novels; historical mysteries; fairytales; ghost stories; contemporary novels with a classic feel. Stories with a touch of magic. Narratives with a unique twist, or told from an unusual perspective. Quirky books for children and compelling fiction for young adults, from heartbreaking tales to exciting adventures. Stories that are dark, honest, strange and different. Books that surprise me, stories that transport me to other worlds. And I can always be swayed by a beautifully crafted sentence.
I can be flexible – I generally prefer to meet face-to-face for a chat over a cup of tea, but where that isn’t possible I’m very happy to provide feedback and support by email.
