***Not accepting applications. Currently working with a mentee***

Julie’s debut YA/Adult crossover novel RED INK  was nominated for the 2014 CILIP Carnegie Medal and long-listed for the 2014 Branford Boase Award. Her forthcoming novel THE BIG LIE has been  described by The Bookseller as, “One book that everyone will be talking about.” Julie originally trained as a journalist, then as an actress, and started writing because she hardly ever saw a script with a brilliant role for a girl or a woman. She has written short stories and Afternoon Dramas for BBC Radio 4, including A SHOEBOX OF SNOW which was shortlisted for the Nick Darke Award and nominated for a BBC Audio Drama Award. Julie hosts short story cabaret night The Berko Speakeasy and is the founder of Berko Writers.

  • YA/cross-over fiction
  • Radio drama.

Julie is working on a project in her hometown of Peterborough from September 2015, so is accepting applications from emerging writers living in the Peterborough area. She is particular keen to work with an applicant who, because of their financial or social status, feels they have not been able to access the tuition and mentoring they have needed.
