I am Commissioning Editor at The Borough Press, part of HarperCollins. I began my career as an independent bookseller in Brighton, going on to train as a literary scout where I read for and worked with foreign publishers. I started editing five years ago at independent publisher Myriad Editions, where I commissioned literary fiction, including Benjamin Johncock’s ‘The Last Pilot’ (winner of the Author’s Club Best First Novel Award). I love every stage of the editorial process including reading and working on manuscripts from an early, developmental stage, helping an author to grow and refine their ideas. I enjoy poignant and thought-provoking themes, character-driven narratives with edge, danger and emotion and stories that challenge the reader (ideal for heated reading group discussions)! I’m also happy to work on narrative non-fiction projects. I love The Borough Press list, which boasts a wonderful range of fiction by authors including Lionel Shriver, Tracy Chevalier, Curtis Sittenfeld and Susie Steiner. Some of my favourite women writers published in the last few years have been Evie Wyld, Samantha Harvey, Liza Klausmann, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, A.M Homes and Eimear McBride.

Dependent on where you’re based and how far along the project is, I can be flexible. Ideally we’d meet in person for a two-hour session followed by further support as needed/to be mutually agreed.
In person, by email, by telephone
