I’ve been an editor for over ten years and am currently Editorial Director at Picador. I have a list of around twenty authors, most of them new writers, and particularly love to nurture and champion debut novelists. Recently, I’ve edited and published Jessie Burton’s The Miniaturist, Naomi Wood’s Mrs. Hemingway, Mark Watson’s Hotel Alpha, David Whitehouse’s Mobile Library and Lottie Moggach’s Kiss Me First. I publish fiction that straddles the line between literary and commercial and above all look for an inimitable voice, unforgettable characters, a compelling narrative and emotional depth.
I’m passionate about the editorial process – the part of my job I value most is forming a close connection with an author and discussing every aspect of their writing. In addition to working with published writers, I’ve been a guest editor for the Arvon Foundation and Singapore Writers’ Festival, as well as various UK literary festivals and creative writing courses.

I’ve still not got the hang of Skype but am happy to meet in person, speak on the phone or email. I’d like to offer a few hours a month over several months – we can discuss how best to use the time and I’ll be as flexible as possible.
