I am the Editorial Director of Raven Books, a new imprint I set up at Bloomsbury specialising in literary crime and thrillers, gothic, suspense and anything else I can sneak on to my list. My forthcoming books at Raven include a gothic ghost story, a high concept murder mystery, an incredibly contemporary state of the nation crime novel and a Victorian crime series with a transgender protagonist, just to give you an idea of what’s in store. I have worked in publishing for over fourteen years, prior to Bloomsbury I worked at Random House for eleven years, publishing authors ranging from number one bestsellers like Jo Nesbo, Richard & Judy pick Ruth Ware, and up & coming talents, including Eva Dolan and Helen Sedgwick.

I absolutely love the editorial process – everything from discussing plot points or debating character motivation to talking about creating a sense of place and the best ways to increase tension – so I’d love to work with someone relatively early on in the process, who is starting out with their writing or looking for advice on their first drafts, as this is probably where I can be of the most help to you. Alongside editorial support and feedback, I will happily offer cheerleading and cake; vital qualities for anyone I think, whether a writer, reader or an editor.

Do come and follow me at @Alison_Edits for more of a sense of me and my brilliant authors.
